On the 4th day of Onam – Nalam Onam (5th day as per calender), Puli Kali (Tiger Dance) is celebrated in Thrissur. This unique festival was started by Maharaja Rama Varma Sakthan Thampuran around 200 years ago. Initially this was a dance done by Muslim soldiers of the British army. Everybody loved their macho dance steps and the tradition lives on still now, kept alive by local Pulikkali groups or ‘sangams’. These shots were taken in 2015.
